The Faith First Series
Because God can be trusted with both
our dreams and our pain.

In Battle for the Heart, David invites readers to step into the deeper struggle that lies unspoken beneath the surface of our frantic lives: the condition of our heart. Amid the constant push for the next achievement and the toxic busyness that demands we optimize every second of the day, we have never been more at risk of being out of sync with what’s occurring in the depth of our heart. In this state of constant movement, we become more susceptible to being shaped by the culture around us than by Jesus.
For anyone longing for a deeper, more resilient relationship with Jesus, this book offers a hopeful path forward and invites readers to stop chasing the world’s definition of success and begin contending for the heart. Through honest reflection, biblical insight, and practical spiritual disciplines, Battle for the Heart shows that lasting transformation is shaped not by dramatic moments but by small, daily decisions.

In Journey Through the Valley, David shares a deeply personal and honest memoir of spiritual growth forged in the crucible of pressure, performance, and pain. As a high-achieving executive, husband, and father, David once believed that success meant constantly climbing the ladder, staying composed, and always being “enough.” But beneath the polished surface was a man unraveling under the impossible weight of modern expectations.
With vulnerability and insight, David recounts how his pursuit of success at any cost left him weary and disconnected—from his purpose, his family, and even himself. It was only when he hit the wall of burnout that he began to discover a new path—one shaped not by striving, but by surrender.
Through failures, doubts, and unexpected grace, Journey Through the Valley is a story of transformation. It’s an invitation to rethink what it means to truly live well—not by the standards of today’s culture, but by the quiet call of Jesus: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
About the Book

Thank you for taking the time to explore this story. I wrote this book because I once believed that true success was all about climbing the corporate ladder and enjoying everything the world had to offer. Yet, the more I pursued that version of success, the more broken I became. I unexpectedly found myself in the depth of a valley that, from the outside looking in, seemed like success. But really, it was a silent suffering no-one had noticed.
It was in the midst of these valleys that I struggled to believe that Jesus was still with me. It felt like He had abandoned me. But he hadn’t. While I desired for Jesus to remove my pain and make my life easier, He longed to use those broken moments for my good. Through this pain, He drew me nearer to Him, reshaped my identity and transformed my view of success.
In the middle of this suffering, I discovered a new way of living, one rooted in surrender rather than striving. I learned that I didn’t need to fear the valley. For it is a set apart season in our lives that the Lord has given us to wrestle with the broken places in our hearts.
This book was written for anyone who has pursued the life this world promises, only to find themselves feeling even more lost and broken. It’s a testimony of God’s goodness and an encouragement to persevere even when all hope seems lost. So remember, no matter what valley you may be walking through, our God is faithful to complete the good work he started in your life. He did it for me and I believe He will do it for you too.
What You Can Expect In This Book
Reading a book from a new author that you don't know can be disorienting at first. As you view this page, my hope is that you'll get a sense of who I am, what I believe, and why I wrote this book. Enjoy!

Biblically Grounded
When I was younger, I read scripture thinking I needed to memorize facts. As I got older, I began to realize that scripture offers us a glimpse into the heart of our God. He is a God that loves us and is for us. Scripture is our true north showing us the way to life, even when the world screams a different answer. Throughout this book, I use scripture to point back to the timeless truths of our King and their relevance for every day life today.

Raw and Authentic
Over the last 10 years, I used my journals to process some of my deepest pain and struggles with Jesus. I've included excerpts from my journals throughout the book in an attempt to show the unfiltered struggle we all have with laying our life down and picking up our cross. Our God is not looking for us to come to Him clothed in perfection, but with our raw emotions and open wounds.

Points Back to Jesus
The purpose of this book is to point us all back to Jesus's invitation to exchange our way for His way. It was only when my way led me straight into a wall that I gave Jesus a chance to lead. This is a story about the struggle of letting Jesus lead, even when it hurts and doesn't make sense.
